Why breastfeed?

Why breastfeed?

Breastmilk is our first food, and a key building block of lifelong health. Breastmilk adapts to each baby and shapes children’s taste, health, and relationship with food and the world around them.

Breastfeeding protects babies from infections and long-term conditions like obesity, diabetes, eczema, and some cancers. It also protects mothers, reducing the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and postnatal depression.

The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months, and continued breastfeeding alongside other foods until at least age two.
